My Poem “Left to Write”

Fast or slow…
Long or short…
Something you feel,
something you know…
Something to be discovered,
something to be revealed…
In a notebook, on a screen…
At home, or somewhere
you have never been…
From eyes and ears
to mind and imagination…
From the inside to the outside…
In silence, from sound…
In the sky, or while standing
upon solid-ground…
From dreams to reality…
From a burst of sunlight…
From the stars of infinity…
Just like that comes a poem,
and it never ceases to amaze me
what a writer can create
when they are simply
left to write.

My Poem “Genius”

Guardians are always with us…
we all have personal deities
protecting us and watching over us…
spirits are all around us,
and when we need them the most
they comfort us and they help us…
we all have benevolent daemons
and angels on our shoulders
who are always speaking to us…
from birth to death
every one of us has a soul
that gives something important to us…
we all have a kindred friend
who only wants what is best for us…
everybody has a place and a person
within them that is their
own personal “Genius”.

My Poem “Eccentricities”

One minute its raining,
the next the sun is shining…
one minute there are clouds up above,
the next there is blue-sky all around…
I have to say that the weather of the UK
is just as eccentric
as the people who populate
this beautiful and wonderful country…
from one end to the other,
in every direction,
the villages, the towns, the cities,
the people, and the weather
of Great Britain
are not shy in the slightest
about showing their indefinable
and their uniquely-British
ever-present eccentricities.

My Poem “Rainstorm”

The raindrops are falling…
The thunder is rumbling…
The people are running for cover…
The people getting soaked
are wishing that they had an umbrella…
The music of a band continues playing…
The children are having fun puddle-jumping…
The British public are yet again
at the mercy of the eccentric
British summer weather…
The streets are slippery under-foot
and they are as shiny as a mirror…
The sound of thunder
again echoes in the clouds above…
The rain continues to pour –
however, after taking a breath for a minute,
everybody steps out again
and braves the constant shower
of this prolonged
Great British rainstorm.

My Poem “The Face of You”

I see your face
every time I close my eyes…
I see your face in my dreams…
I see your face
every time I look up to the sky…
I see your face
imprinted upon my memories…
I see your face
beautiful and bright
like an constantly illuminated
green neon-light…
I see your face even when it is dark –
because every perfect detail
of your exquisiteness
is like a beautiful green aurora
against the stars of midnight…
I see your face
when I call upon my idea
of the most beautiful,
and I always see your face –
because I’m in love with
the face of you.

My Poem “Follow the Stars”

Follow the stars,
you never know where
they may take you…
look up, look down,
look left, look right –
especially when the sun is shining
and all the flowers are in bloom…
follow the one whose name
means the most to you…
look for reasons to go the extra miles
that will one day take you
beyond the horizon and into the blue,
so that you may touch the face
of your beautiful muse.

My Poem “Night into Day”

Nobody knows
why some people do what they do…
some people live a life
influenced by the words
and the actions of a Rock Star,
while others live
by the cycle of the moon…
nobody knows what to do
at every moment of every day…
some people need others to tell them
that where they are going is the wrong way…
nobody knows what somebody else’s
version of perfection is…
some people find happiness and truth in music,
while others find heaven-sent bliss
within the instant of a kiss…
nobody knows what shadows continue to live
within the consciousness of some people
after a regrettable time in their lives…
I just wish that more people
would talk to somebody else
about what is on their mind
and about how they are feeling,
because talking to the right person,
at the right time, in the right way,
can turn the darkest of nights
into the brightest of days.

My Poem “Sax in the city”

Hearing the sound of a saxophone
being played on Cherry Street
today was unexpected…
hearing somebody play a piece of music,
or sing a song, for the love of playing
and being heard by others is truly inspiring…
every performer I have ever heard performing
has been to me like watching
a magician perform some trick of magic…
when you hear a particular song
at the right time
you can’t stop yourself from smiling,
crying, or feeling something
that makes your daydreams echo freely…
music that touches my soul always stays with me –
just as the song that I heard this morning still is…
I am so grateful for the gift of music,
and I am so thankful to the talented musician
that I heard this morning on Cherry Street
playing his sax in the city.

(The saxophone player was playing “Take Five” by Dave Brubeck)

My Poem “One Minute”

One minute of time…
One minute to write…
One minute to construct
a rhyme of many lines…
One minute…
(is not enough time)

My Poem “Song of My Soul”

The dawn of day…
the call of morning…
the time to wake up
and walk your own way…
the time to open your eyes,
your ears, your mind,
and keep alive the fire
of your imagination
so that it never stops burning…
this is my every-day philosophy…
this my heart-beat symphony
and the song of my soul
that I daily sing.
