My Poem ‘Boo’
There once was a dog called ‘Boo’,
whose fur was as black as night
and as white as that of snow,
who when they heard the call of their name
they would run to you
and then follow you there afterwards
wherever you would go.
Boo loved to jump;
Boo loved to run;
Boo loved to bark, but never bite;
Boo loved to wag their tail
to show that they were happy and having fun.
Boo was smart;
Boo loved learning and performing new tricks;
if Boo saw another dog
they were off like a shot;
Boo’s favourite thing in the entire world
was their well-chewed green tennis-ball,
and Boo also loved giving “face-sugars”
to their owners’ mouths
with wet tongue licks.
One day, Boo saw that the front-door
of his home was slightly ajar
and that the light from outside
was shining on the floor –
Boo loved being outside
and Boo loved rolling around
on the front garden’s green lawn –
so Boo decided to take this golden opportunity
to discover what they could see, hear,
smell, and taste outside,
and embrace their gifted chance.
Boo opened the front-door more with their nose
just enough for them to fit through;
Boo jumped out into the light of the day
on to the garden path,
and then Boo saw that the gate of the garden
that lead to the road was open…
Boo saw no danger…
Boo wanted nothing more than to have fun…
Boo ran to the gate and jumped out into the road,
and then…
All dogs can go to heaven;
all animals can find peace when they pass on –
but, sometimes, the bond that an animal has
with their owner is so strong,
and they are so much a part of a family
that they love and who loves them,
that they are given a choice,
just as I believe we are all given
when it is our time:
to remain here on Earth
and continue to be near and dear
to those who bless us
with the name that we are given.
Boo saw the light,
but Boo chose to run back
into the arms of their master;
Boo’s owners cried many tears
when they discovered that Boo had left them –
however they knew that Boo
was still with them some-how,
and they also knew that the memory
of what they meant to Boo
and what Boo meant to them
was all that mattered.
Boo lived on;
Boo still loved to run and jump,
and sit comfortably in their owners’ lap;
Boo still enjoyed laying down in the grass
and sun-bathing on a sunny afternoon;
Boo still felt an unbreakable bond of love;
Boo still came running when they heard
the sound of the mail coming through the letter-box.
Although they could no longer be seen,
although their bark was now slightly more muted
than it used to be,
whenever they heard their name
there came a-running the dog that was,
the dog that is,
and the dog that will always be,
‘Boo’.
My Poem ‘Get Up and Go!’
Whenever I wake up
and I feel the warmth of the sun on my face,
whenever I hear the sound
of birds singing sweetly outside my window,
whenever I open my eyes and I see my home
and the perfect oasis of the human race,
I always feel invigorated with inspiration
and energy, and I always feel this irrepressible need
to get up out of bed, walk out my front door,
pick a direction, and just go!
It’s great to have something planned to do –
however, I always find it more exciting and fun
to not plan too much, and instead just go with the flow;
it’s great to have something to look forward to,
but I always say that you should never worry
too much about the finer details of something –
because if you let things happen naturally,
amazing things can happen and will happen,
one after the other,
like a line of dominoes falling in a row.
If you are lucky enough to live near a beach,
then every morning the soft sand,
or the infinite pebbles, of that beach
should always be your first port of call –
because to be able to walk the shoreline
and hear the sound of the waves crashing near me
would be unquestionably amazing and incredibly beautiful.
I have always believed that the way that you wake up
will always inform what kind of day you will have;
I have always believed that no matter what happens
you should always start your day with a smile –
to the world, to someone, to yourself –
and whatever you do just do your best
to ride all the ups and downs of the worlds waves.
The thought of surfing in the morning;
the feeling of sitting somewhere tranquil and gorgeous,
and opening my mind up to everything,
and not even thinking too much…
just living, breathing, seeing, dreaming, and writing;
the thought of running along the wooden boards of a pier
and then reaching the end and diving off into the ocean;
the feeling of the perfect sea-breeze
blowing through my hair would make me want
to live intensely to the extreme of every emotion.
It is never too early;
it is never too late;
you are never too old or too young to run free,
or maybe even climb a tree;
you can do anything that you can put your mind to,
if you leap and keep moving
with every beat of your heart;
sunsets are meant to be seen;
memories are just waiting to be made;
knowledge is just waiting to be known;
life can be lived as if it were a dream;
if you enjoy every and any ride that you find yourself on –
then you might perhaps find yourself
face to face with someone who needs to be saved;
so if and when you ever feel
an energy within you start to grow,
run towards the light,
feel carried as if on a great wave,
and embrace the rush
of your inner get up and go!
My Poem ‘Live for the moment’
Living for the moment,
living in the moment;
doing something different,
going somewhere different;
soaking up the rays of the sun,
going out and having all kinds of fun;
having so many ideas in your head
you do not know where to start,
thinking about so many things to do –
the thought of the potential possibilities
feel almost too much for both your head and your heart;
taking the initiative and acting on instinct;
making a plan to dive low and rise high,
like the bubbles of a fizzy drink.
Where once things felt harder,
because they felt so far away –
today, everything is accessible with a touch;
where once people used to think
that there was a literal edge and end to the Earth,
humanity has learned that no matter where
and in what direction you travel
there is always more to see and further to go –
because the world is constantly
and instantaneously redefining the meaning of living,
and when it comes to Life
that could not and will not ever be enough.
One of the greatest things you can do
is to plant a seed, and with your care and attention
watch it grow before your eyes;
one of the best experiences of your life
is when you are doing something with someone
and everything feels effortless, timeless, momentous,
and truth transcends words;
one of the moments that stays with you
is the feeling of intense and deep happiness
without the need to try;
one of the things that reminds you
that you are a part of something
larger and greater than you might have realized,
is something that you see and feel everyday –
but which you may take for granted,
and that is Life itself:
the air we breathe,
the language and the detail
in the landscape that surrounds us,
and in the burning core and in the heart
at the centre of our beautiful and glorious world.
There are oceans of energy,
as well as oceans of water;
there are reasons for things to be as they are,
beyond how they appear;
there are silent languages of signs
that say infinitely more than the response
of a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ answer;
there are people who are more in-tune
with the needs, the voice,
and the poetry of our sphere;
there is a constant concert performing
that is free to attend, and anyone can revel at it
and participate in it with the gift
of their birth-born instrument;
there is a time to embrace and to seize life,
and that time is always right now…
so take this instant, and run with it!
And whatever you do next, promise yourself
to make the most of every second…
and live for the moment!
