Sometimes it is amazing the lengths that people will go to... sometimes it is amazing the things that people will do for a friend, for a family member, for a companion, for a complete stranger in order to help them out and give them support in some way... sometimes people will do things for the people who mean the most to them that they would not dream of doing for anyone else; however when the time arrives and when the need arises for someone to step up and do something extraordinary some people always manage to go the extra mile, to pull out all the stops, in order to make sure that their devotion for someone is in full display... sometimes the things people will do for love are the most extreme - some people have been known to act in such a manner and to accomplish such feats of inspiration and endurance that they might rival those with the greatest intellectual or physical prowess... sometimes the things that people can accomplish when the clock is ticking and when time is running out and when a decisive decision needs to be made speak volumes about the capability and the capacity of people - especially when they are under duress... sometimes life tests us all, because sometimes something or someone wants to see what we're all made of and to what tune our heart rings true... sometimes it amazes me what things people, including myself, depending on the time and the place we find ourselves, will ultimately be compelled to do.
Actions
My Poem “Why?”
There is always a reason, there is always a why, there is always a motivation for the myriad of actions that people sometimes take and for the many decisions that people sometimes make that they have no trouble in being able to justify. Where there is a spark there will always be a flame... where there is touch and proximity there will always be intimacy... where there is language there is will always be consideration, interpretation and loss - because truth and reality are not always the same... where there is the evidence of stories of the past there will always remain mysteries. Myths, legacies, stories, records, chronicles, cave paintings, rock carvings are important depictions of a mixture of both fiction and fact all rolled into one... sometimes it doesn't take anything more than someone saying that they heard a voice tell them to do something for them to immediately act seemingly without thinking, nor without a fight... symbols, signs, warnings, lessons, cautionary tales are vital for any civilization to learn the merits of what is right and what is wrong... sometimes it takes the bravest of the brave to stop something that they know is going to happen before it happens - so that some day someone won't have to look back upon a choice that they made and have to justify to others and perhaps to themselves the answer to the question: why?
My Poem “Everybody is a Poet”
The truth –
no matter what anybody tells you –
is that everyone is an artist,
everyone is a Poet,
everyone can do something unique,
everyone has a talent,
everyone has something that they are meant to do,
everyone has the spirit, the soul, the mind
than when honed is capable of doing anything,
expressing anything, experiencing everything
that makes life on this planet worth living…
If you can make someone smile,
if you can make someone laugh,
if you can make someone think,
if you can make someone feel something,
then I am happy to tell you
that you are an artist, you are a poet,
you are a member of a world wide
society of people who embody life
from every extreme on the scale
of reality in which we are capable of
inhaling and exhaling…
Money can’t buy you many things –
and one of the things that it can’t buy
is yourself: your life, your memories,
your experiences, your perspective,
your joy, your happiness, your hopes,
your fears, your nightmares, your concerns,
because all of those things are unique to you alone
but they can be shared and sympathized with others
because there are always others who have similar,
universal, human, psychological, physical,
and verbal insights into the kaleidoscope
of thoughts, dreams, and emotions
that drive the engine of nature
that surrounds all of us…
There are things in this life, in the universe,
that nobody can see –
when astronomers look up and back in time
to the beginning of the universe
they find an impenetrable wall of light and energy:
the innermost shock-wave from the explosion
that created everything that we see,
from the moment of the Big Bang, frozen in time –
which surrounds the answers to some of the most
important questions ever asked: Why are we here?
What is the meaning of life? Is there a God?
Everybody asks questions – that is what we do,
and that is what humanity has always done…
Everybody has a story to tell
and everybody is a storyteller
and a character in their own right…
Everybody goes on a journey during their life
to find themselves and what they believe
should be their purpose while they are alive
on Earth and a member of this world…
Everybody creates a little piece of art every day,
but sometimes it can take a while to interpret
what someone is trying to say –
however, in their own way,
even if they do not realize it,
and even if they are not actually using words
to communicate their feelings and motivations,
a person’s actions can speak volumes,
and in my opinion every action that someone
makes should be classed as poetic…
I have met a lot of people throughout my life,
and I have heard, seen, and I have read stories
about people from vastly different walks of life –
and the conclusion that I have come to
is that everybody, in their own way,
is an artist, and everybody is a Poet.
My Poem ‘Boomerang’
Throw that boomerang
as hard and as far as you can
high into the sky –
but make sure to watch it constantly
as it flies and then comes back around
with more speed and more energy
than what you put into it when you threw it,
because if you don’t anticipate its return
then it may end up hitting you
straight between the eyes.
Life is an open sky;
thoughts, actions, emotions,
and intentions are like a boomerang;
do unto others as you would have
done unto you is one of life’s
greatest philosophies to live by;
once you have light a fuse
connected to anything explosive
you run the risk that it is one day
ultimately going to go bang!
Actions have consequences;
words when spoken out-loud
are followed by echoes;
if you knowingly hurt someone’s feelings
then one day you too may find yourself
being hurt by someone or something
in ways that cannot be easily mended;
words, even those spoken
in the silent to the outside-world
confines of our own minds
find a way to spread themselves far and wide –
and where they may land
and what impact they may make
all depends on the reason
that they were said in the first place…
one word can haunt you worse
than any phantom or ghost.
I believe in karma,
and I believe that the world
is like a giant echo-chamber;
I believe in cause and effect,
and I believe that so-called “imperfections”
are in fact what make the world we live in perfect;
I believe that for there to be any kind of balance
there must be opposites,
and I believe that things do happen for a reason,
and I believe when things come face-to-face with you
don’t be afraid to go toe-to-toe
and eye-to-eye with them, or it.
The world is a sphere;
because of a little thing called “gravity”,
what goes up will always come back down;
sometimes the best way to move beyond
something that is bothering you is to let it out –
I personally would recommend putting pen to paper
and then exorcising yourself of your negative thoughts
by throwing them into a fire;
be careful what you say and what you wish for –
because the world is always listening,
and most things that we do in life
come back around to us like a boomerang.
My Poem ‘Halo’
Appearances can be deceiving;
no one in real-life
carries around a profile of themselves
of things about them
that other people might need
or want to know;
some things that we should believe in
sometimes do take time to fully sink in;
not all demons have horns,
and not all angel’s have halo’s.
Everybody is different;
everybody shows their feelings in different ways –
some people are always truthful and upfront,
some people are masters of turning a phrase,
some people can keep a secret,
and some people can’t;
some people live a life of regret,
while others do everything that in front of them
and commit always with all their heart.
Just as some people show their love
with a simple gesture of a poem and some flowers;
just as some people ask for nothing else
from their partner but love;
just as some people capture another person
and give them the gift of their likeness
as they appeared when reproduced
in a photograph or a painted picture –
there is no one-true universal symbol
of compassion and love
that could ever compare
to that which makes a heart skip a beat…
for some that might be a ring,
a story written just for them,
or perhaps a message of white
written in the blue sky above.
When the universe began with a flash of light,
when existences’ clock started ticking,
when the laws of nature were first ingrained
into every particle of stardust,
and all of space and time
spectacularly escaped from an opening
smaller than the size of the tip of a pin…
when the universe contracted
and then made its first life-giving push…
all things began,
all things multiplied,
all things became part of an unfinished plan,
and all things were forever bound
to the reason and the meaning of life…
birth, life, death –
and in that order, by design.
When you stand outside on a Winter’s night,
and you look up at the stars,
it looks as if the stars above
are falling all around you
and have turned themselves
into flakes of snow;
when you look into the eyes
of someone who loves you,
or when you are touched
by the hand of a hero;
when you see something amazing
that transcends the language of all words…
you will see in all its glory
the light within the soul and the heart
of someone that is as beautiful
and golden as the ring described to be found
above the crown of an angel of heaven,
that is the symbolic sign of purity of spirit –
that manifests in humans
in their thoughts and in their actions,
which represent their own divine halo’s.
My Poem ‘Here’
I am where I have been
a thousand times before –
but this time it feels different,
this time I feel different.
When I write, I like to write
about exactly what is on my mind
at a particular moment in time –
however, where I am right now,
I have never been her before.
We can all go off and enjoy adventures
and make mistakes,
but we should never forget
what and who is truly important –
and I think, for a little while, I did,
and I have, and I realize now
the cost that our actions can have,
and there are always consequences
to going off like an outlaw
off the beaten-path.
I feel, looking back,
that I made the mistake
of forgetting who I truly am,
and chasing after a mirage
that never existed.
That is what happens
when you find yourself in a desert
and you lose your way –
when you want something so badly
you can accidentally find yourself
in the middle of a game
that someone else is playing.
Now I feel like I have come through the dust,
and the wilderness, and I have found myself
back where I started –
I am a different man to the one
who set out so long ago,
but seeing the familiar places and faces
who were a part of my life for so long,
I feel like I have come home.
I feel like ‘the man with no name’;
I feel like I have returned
after taking a treacherous trek
through lands where no one would ever
knowingly choose to dare;
I feel like I have found an old photograph
and I have stepped inside the frame;
I feel like I have come out
the other end of a dark tunnel
into the light of the day,
and I need to find out who I am again.
Where am I?
I am where I should have stayed all along,
I am where I belong: I am here.
