Sunday Ramble: 23-10-22

In this episode Mark pauses his viewing of the 2018 film ‘A Quiet Place’ to talk about both the verbal and seemingly silent languages that he witnesses being used by people every day.

My Poem “Lost and Found”

It’s been a long time since I wrote like this…
It’s been a long time since I felt like this…
It’s been a long time since I felt as if I were adrift…
It’s been a long time since I made a wish…
It’s been a long time since I felt as if I had
nothing else to anchor me
except for my family and my poetry…
It’s been a long time since I looked in the mirror
and I did not recognize who was looking back at me...
It’s been a long time since I saw some of the muses
who over the last ten years have knowingly,
or unknowingly, inspired me...
It’s been a long time since
I experienced a true new beginning -
but now that I have been left by those
who I once thought I knew and who I thought knew me,
I believe that I am having to walk while fully awake –
where before, perhaps, I had only been sleep-walking...
It’s been a long time,
but I think I know who I am now…
It’s been a long time,
but I think I get the message clear and loud…
It’s been a long time,
but I think I have been touched by a light
like the sunlight that eventually
breaks through even the darkest of clouds…
It’s been a long time,
but I think I have arrived somewhere
where I have acquired what I have been looking for –
somewhere I can only acquaint to being
some kind of poetic Lost and Found.

My Poem “God”

"What if God were walking these streets right now?"
Said one friend to the other.
"Maybe they are. They could be anyone -
a man, a woman, even a dog?"
Replied the other friend, as they both
walked from one side of the city to the other.
"Well someone did ask
a similar question in a song once:
What if God was one of us?
Just a slob like one of us?
Just a stranger on a bus
trying to make his way home?"
Said the friend, as they recalled the lyrics
to the 1995 song 'One of Us' by Joan Osborne -
which the other friend replied by saying
they had never heard of.
But what if you did walk passed God?
And what if God walked passed you?
Would they look how you imagine them to?
Would they look like the picture
that has been painted of them?
If God stopped you and talked to you
would you heed their message -
or would you just walk on by?
God could be anybody.
God could turn up when you least expect them.
God could be a man dressed in black;
God could a man dressed in white;
God could be a woman in red walking fast;
God could be a child who when they smile
is able to brighten even the cloudiest of days
or the darkest of nights.
If there is an almighty then there is no way
any of us can ever be truly lost -
because everything happens for a reason,
because everybody meets other people for a reason,
and if there were a way to describe
why things happen and when
then why not call them "God"?

My Poem “Transitional”

Life is always transitioning
from one state of being to another -
but the act and the art of change
is no more apparent, prominent,
invigorating, and awe-inspiring
than at the time of the year
of when Spring becomes Autumn
when the leaves of the trees change colour
and then ultimately let go and fall...
people are always thinking, listening,
feeling, and looking for new things,
or familiar things,
to excite or reignite their senses -
and there is no time like the present
when anybody can seemingly do anything,
when anyone can look how they want,
when anyone can be whoever
and whatever they want to be...
places are always having new visitors to them,
and there are always those people
who return to a place time after time -
because a certain place has something about it
that is special, magical,
and gets under a person's skin deeper than a needle.

In my experience life is full of poetry...
in my experience people are more pliable
than they think they are...
in my experience every place has a story
that speaks volumes and can be heard
if you want to hear what it has to say...
in my experience life experience is
what gives us all the gift of indistinguishable individuality...
in my experience some people
can only show their best side when
everything around them is dark
and they can shine like the brightest of stars...
in my experience we can all find ourselves
somewhere and with someone that can influence us
that we can in turn have an influence on
the more that we are exposed to them -
especially if we are with someone
somewhere almost every day.

Life does not always give everybody a choice
as to whether they want to change or not -
because sometimes some things
must happen,
whether we want them to happen or not...
life has moving pieces and things
that must repeat and work
in synchronicity with one another
like the cogs, gears, and the settings of a clock...
people like things that reoccur
because it gives them something to look forward to -
that is why people like traditions...
life is about things that are built to last,
as well as about things that happen, are captured,
and then are gone again in a snap!
Life and people will always be a work in progress
and always in the process of constant transition.
