My Poem “An Angel In Blue Scrubs”

I truly do not know how you do
the things that you do,
night after night
effortlessly caring for others
while wearing your scrubs
the colour of Carribean blue,
wearing a mask and a pair of gloves
as you attend to the patients
who have been admitted to
the hospital you work at
with various ailments
that require medical attention –
but no matter who your patient is
your beautiful smile, your dazzling eyes
and your incredible bedside manner
is all that is needed
to instantly aid in any given
patient’s recovery and the improving
of their immediate mood.

Being who you are,
knowing what you do,
I know for a fact that
it is not always easy
doing what you do –
but the way that you can rise
above every situation and always
remain a consummate professional
is an example of what makes you
so special and so perfect at
performing the role which your
life-long calling has guided you to,
and I believe that true Angel’s
like you find themselves
in places in their life
where, when, and with people
who are the most suited
to benefit from the gifts
that a Health Care Professional
like you were born with
and what you excel at sharing
while doing what you were born to do –
you are amazing, you are phenomenal,
you are perfect, you are a miracle,
my breathtaking blue scrub wearing Angel.

My Poem “38”

Today I am 38 years-old…
today, like every day,
every month, every year,
as I have got older,
I always look back over my shoulder –
even it is only for an instant –
and I take a good, long, look
at myself and I recall what I have done,
where I have been, and all that I have seen.

Ever since I was a child
I have always known how lucky I was
to have been born when, where,
and to whom I was born –
the home that I have always known,
and the parents who have never
stopped loving me and have
never stopped being proud of me…
today is my birthday,
and this year – more than any other,
I feel so lucky to have what I have,
and more importantly I feel so lucky to have
who I have in my life,
and I feel so lucky to share my life
with who I love the most in the entire world.

Every year, around this same time of the year,
I always wonder whether my life
would be better if I had made
different decisions and other choices
at certain points in my life –
and, every time I do,
I ultimately come back to the unshakable
and unwavering realization that I am
who I am meant to be
and my life is what it is meant to be;
however, that does not mean
that there aren’t things
that I wish I could change
with the snap of a finger if I had the power.

I know more about myself
than I knew five years ago…
I know so much more about life and people
than I did ten years ago…
I know more about my destiny and my life’s purpose
than I did twenty years ago;
however, I believe, even from the moment
that I was delivered into the light of this world,
that the path that I have been walking
all my life was already right in front of me,
and that along the way it only took
the strength of determination,
the courage, and the fearlessness
that I have been blessed with
by many people in my life
to contribute to my understanding
and my appreciation of what makes
a life lived to its potential so great,
and in life there are definitely times
when it is fun to just go with the flow
and see where it takes you –
because if you are lucky
then you might find yourself one day
far away from home and staring into the eyes
and within the embrace of an angel.

Life is short, and sometimes
you have to do things
and you have to experience things
before it is too late
and there is no time
left to do and to see
all of the amazing
and extraordinary things
that life has in store –
that is what I believe,
and that is what I know for sure,
and that is the culmination
of all of my knowledge
and all my experiences
that I have acquired
from every hour, every day,
every month, every year, prior to today,
when I turn 38 years-old.

My Poem “You will always be my starlight”

Stay with me… never leave…
you are my dream… can’t you see,
I have loved you since I looked at you
and since that moment you looked at me –
and now, every day I am lucky to be
able to see your beautiful face
and call you my fiance,
the one who loves me,
my love, my heart, my soul, my life…
you are more amazing than you could ever know…
I will always be yours – even when we’re old.

I could never live without you in my life –
if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be able to walk,
if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be able to talk,
if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be able to think,
if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be able to sleep.

I’ve told you many times how much I love your eyes…
I’ve told you many times how much I love your hair –
no matter the colour, no matter the length…
I’ve told you many times how much
I love your perfect smile…
I’ve told you many times how much
I love everything about you –
from your freckles to your toes –
and I will always love you on the inside and on the outside,
every moment of my life, every hour of the day and the night,
and my only wish is that we stay together, forever –
because, just as I am your sunshine,
you will always be my starlight.

My Poem ‘I’m not going anywhere’

You can say what you want,
you can say what you’re not –
but I will always love you no matter what…
you can think what you want,
you can believe what you want –
but I am not going anywhere,
because you are my everything
and the only one that I want…
I know you look in the mirror sometimes
and you don’t like who and what you see –
but I am telling you right here and right now
that you are beautiful in every way
and you are always going to be, baby…
I love you like nobody has ever loved anything or anyone…
you are my life and I love you with all my heart…
to me you are perfect and nobody could ever compare to you…
I want you to know that I will never look
at another woman like I look at you,
because I am more in love with you
than words could ever say and more than anybody could ever know…
when you have doubts, when you worry about things,
please think of me and believe what I say,
and remember these words of mine…
what I love about you more than anything
is your big heart and your pure soul,
and every day I fall in love with you
over and over and over again,
because to me who you are is mesmerizing and amazing –
and no matter where I am or what I am doing
your perfect face shines in my mind,
your love for me makes me happier than I have ever felt in my life,
and your voice sings to me and makes me wish
that I was there with you or you were here with me…
I love you like crazy, baby!
Never forget that you are my world, you are a part of me,
I love you, and I am never going anywhere unless it’s to you.

My Poem “Love the Love”

Love is free…
Love is the greatest gift
that you can give anybody…
Love should always come naturally…
Love is undefinable,
as is the feeling inside you
that someone special brings alive within you
when you think about them
and when you see them…
Love is the embodiment of divine intervention
and it is the most amazing power in the universe…
Love finds you when you need it the most…
Love can be a life saver…
Love can set your soul free…
Love is a bond that can never be severed…
Love is always what you are looking for
and when you find it you know with absolute certainty
that the one you love will always be enough
to make you happy – take it from me.

My Poem ‘Cosmos’

There are some absolutely
breathtaking sights…
the vivid, spectral,
ethereal, green, dancing
magnetic field of our planet
that comes alive and creates
the mesmerizing Aurora
of the Northern Lights
above the sea and the mountains
that touch an arctic sky…
there are some incredible
and stunning places that perfectly
exemplify how truly beautiful
the natural world is…
there are some unbelievably
heavenly spaces, and some
other-worldly lands
that still have yet to be
trekked upon by the foot of a human being –
places that encapsulate the meaning
of the word “wild”…
there are some amazing landmarks
of every country, continent, and island,
where people are drawn to
and they would sacrifice anything
to breathe in its air
and take in everything that makes
such a place so special and enthralling…
there are some things that need to be seen
to be believed that they actually exist.

There are places that need to be seen
in the right light so as to truly witness
their magic – at night, when the sky is dark
and the stars burn bright from so far away
all that can be seen from here on Earth
is a shimmering white…
there are songs sung and music to be heard
when we look up and a celestial voice
speaks to us and unlocks
the doors of our imagination…
there are other worlds out there
in the universe teaming with life
of unimaginable forms that dream
dreams of us at night…
there are things that are being born
every second, everywhere,
that are experiencing what it means
to be alive wherever they find themselves,
and they are discovering for the first time
the wonders that flicker in a person’s heart
and eventually become love.

There are moments when knowledge, intellect,
and words just become redundant
when compared to what we see before us…
there are feelings that overwhelm comprehension
and go beyond our instincts that we trust…
there are miracles and wishes
traveling at the speed of thought
to come and answer the calls
of those who feel lost…
there are galactic travelers
voyaging between the stars
that will one day enter our orbit
and who will reveal to us
things that we have never believed possible
but which are ubiquitous
all throughout the cosmos.

My Poem ‘Sights to see in Birmingham City’

Even from far-away
you can see the towers of the city on the horizon;
as you get closer to the centre of the city
the buildings both old and new glisten;
when you catch a glimpse of the spires
of Saint Martin’s church,
and of the shining disks that cover
the imposing Selfridges store,
you cannot help but be taken-aback by what you see;
when you climb the steps that lead
to the entrance to the Bullring,
that is but the start of a path
to things that always attract my attention
and capture my fascination
every time I see them
as I walk around the city.

I love walking up New Street,
from the famous bronze Birmingham bull
to the statue of Queen Victoria
that stands tall atop their plinth
at Victoria Square –
there are always musicians and street-performers
playing and performing hoping to draw people to them
so that they can bedazzle with the talent;
I love going into my favourite restaurants and stores –
in particular Starbucks, Waterstones,
and also my favourite bookstore ‘Foyles’
which to me is the jewel in the crown
of the newly-refurbished New Street Station –
and simply looking, perusing,
people-watching, and listening;
one of my favourite places to go in all the city
is the amazing and inspiring
Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery –
the exhibitions and the art to be found within
to me is always a treat to behold…
and another place I love to revisit is of course
the phenomenal new Birmingham library –
somewhere I have spent many an hour
enjoying every moment of walking through
the near-infinite number of books on their shelves,
and also sitting outside almost on the library’s roof
looking far and wide and also below
at the beautiful city beneath me.

I love walking the towpaths
of the canal-side near The Mailbox;
I love walking from one end of Broad Street
to the other and marveling
at the number of restaurants and bars
that can be seen as you follow the stars
and in the footsteps of the famous and the renowned;
I love how no matter if it is a sunny day or a rainy day
that I cannot deny that this city
constantly speaks to me and to my sensibilities;
I love those times when I can walk around,
or just sit down on a bench near St. Philips Cathedral
that stands at the heart of the city,
and allow my thoughts to runaway in my mind;
I love the many cultures, accents, colours,
and sounds that echo wherever you find yourself in town;
I love every time that I get to see the sights
that always inspire me in Birmingham City.

My Poem ‘D.W.G.H.’

My Dad is the most caring
the most loving,
the most hard-working,
the most passionate,
the most incredible
and the most amazing man,
father, hero, Dad,
in the entire world!
My Dad has seen things,
my Dad has experienced things,
my Dad knows things
that I could never know,
or ever truly describe or put into words.
My Dad is a man of impeccable instincts;
my Dad is a man who is infinitely gifted;
my Dad is a man with the biggest
and the most open heart;
my Dad has a smile, a face,
and the bluest eyes I have ever seen in my life –
and within his eyes, many times,
I have seen a spirit and a light
that ever since I was a boy
has kept me from being afraid of the dark.

My Dad has been my greatest
inspiration and motivation
to never give up, to never stop hoping,
and to never stop working hard
at keeping what matters the most;
my Dad is not like any-other father in the world –
not only does he have a one-of-a-kind mind,
and an endless devotion and love for my Mum,
but he is also an amazing cook
and he is a master of a Sunday roast.

My Dad has taught me many things,
but I know that I could never match-up
to his shining example
of what it takes to be a great man;
my Dad has shed blood, sweat,
and tears for his family –
however, no matter all that he has been through,
he can still wear a smile
and can be to all who meet him
a wonderful and shining inspiration.

If it were not for my Dad
then I do not know who I,
nor anybody in my immediate family, would be;
if it were not for my Dad
then I would not be here –
I am the best of my father,
and my father is who brings out the best in me;
my Dad’s voice, my Dad’s laugh, brings me joy,
and my Dad’s strength is unbelievably inspiring;
my Dad has never given up
and would never give up on anything
that fills his life with happiness and joy –
and I too have been blessed with the same spark
within my soul, that flashes brighter than lightning.

There is so much more
that I could say about my amazing Dad –
but, for now, I just want to say
that I love him very much, and I want to wish
a very happy father’s day to him,
to my Dad – David William George Hastings.

My Poem ‘No comparison’

I’ve walked the Earth…
I’ve searched the stars…
I’ve been waiting to be
with you all my life…
I’ve seen love in the eyes of others –
but I have never seen a love
as breathtaking as ours.

It began before we met…
it started when our heart’s
first began beating…
it started when we were born
of our parents under the sunlight
that constantly shines down
upon our beautiful planet…
it all began before even
the first birds began tweeting.

You and I, me and you –
we are one of a kind,
we are unbelievably special…
we make new music together
every time we speak…
we fall in love with each other
over and over again…
we would not be the same people
without each other,
nor would we be as happy as can be…
we are one and the same,
and that is something
that could only we could ever understand.

It’s because of you
that my heart feels like
it is beating a thousand times a second…
it’s because of you
that nothing could ever compare…
it’s because of you
that I believe that for each
and every one of us God has a plan…
it’s because of you
that I look at your picture
at all hours of the day
and I dream of being with you
over and over again
within every timeless moment that I stare.

I have never loved anyone like I love you…
I have never thanked God more for anything
than I do when I thank him for you…
you have been the most beautiful to me
since the first picture that I saw of you…
because you are my passion,
because you are my obsession,
because you are my addiction,
because in all the world,
because on all the planets
that circle those distant lights of perfection,
there is nothing and no one
as gorgeous, nor as amazing, as you…
because, Melissa, to me, to you,
there is no comparison.

My Poem ‘The Mermaid’

Before writers started looking
above the clouds and imagining
the wonders of creation
that may live on other worlds,
orbiting around other stars…
before philosophers started dwelling
on the burning questions of human existence…
before any child ever dreamed
about setting foot on another planet…
before rockets, before planes,
before trains, before cars…
before there were countries with governments
led by the will of presidents…
the ancient seven seas of Earth
were believed by many to be
where the most amazing and fantastic,
supernatural and magical,
being and life resided –
and there must have been many
a sea-faring captain of a ship
who must have stayed up all night long
dreaming about capturing
a mythical creature from the ocean depths.

Epic and gigantic monsters…
tentacled behemoths…
giant and colossus monstrosities…
the nightmare characters of those who spent days,
months, even years, battling the forces of nature
over vast expanses of the oceans of the world
hoping to come face to face
with the unseen and the undiscovered…
in the days when and where dragons were thought
to live on the literal edge of the Earth…
gods of all names, sizes and colours, were worshiped
and had monuments erected in their honour…
when the possibility of traveling to another country
on the other side of the world
was so incredible to think of
it could only be the stuff of fantasy…
it was in the days before
the world fought itself in war after war
that everybody believed there was more to be found
than anybody had ever seen before.

Even in this day and age,
even in this decade and century,
we are still discovering life on our planet
that for some reason or another
had remained hidden and secret in seclusion
and were only the spoken or written word
of a story told and retold
by people who claimed to have had
a first-hand close-encounter;
every day something extraordinary
has a light shined upon it
and the knowledge of it actually being
a living-thing is so miraculous
it creates shock-waves;
there is no more powerful reminder
of the infinite possibilities of life
than nature – and there are countless times
when that fact has been abundantly clear;
everywhere you look,
every day around the world,
even today in the 21st century,
we are all surrounded by images
and iconography of myths that still live on –
be they leprechauns, dragons, epic crusades,
or a beautiful green and white mermaid.
