My Poem “Every Time is Different”

Sometimes the bad
can overshadow the good…
sometimes the happiest of times
can be forgotten about
because the darkness of hate
and disappointment can
make them sink beneath
the ocean of our memories
so deep that we almost feel
as if they never happened,
and were just a dream…
sometimes we focus too much on
who someone is to us in the present
that we have a hard time remembering
who someone was before -
when times were better -
because the pain of being hurt by someone
can transform the way that we see them;
heroes can become villains;
lovers can become users;
angels can become demons -
and nothing and no one can restore
the halo that once seemingly shone above
the head that now seemingly has horns…
sometimes a song that you once loved,
and used to use to share your affection for
with someone who you used to love,
you can come to hate -
because the way that a particular song
used to make you feel has changed in your mind
and in the way you feel about yourself and the world,
and you will try to make sure you never hear that song again;
but whenever you try to avoid
and forget something, or someone -
like a particular song, or a particular person -
undoubtedly that something, or that someone,
will find you and remind you that they
are still a part of you, and they always will be…
sometimes we all have to accept the fact,
and the reality, that we have no control
over what the universe will bring into our lives
and occasionally influence us with their spirit,
because that is the relationship that each of us have
with everything and everyone else
in existence, everywhere -
from the beginning to the end;
because no matter how many times
you do something, listen to something,
see someone, or hear a particular voice -
even if it is for the thousandth time -
each and every time it is always different.

My Poem “Flashback”

Some stories will always remain
secret and unknown,
while other stories are familiar to many
because they were allowed
the freedom to be told -
however, then there are stories
that can only be told
when, where, and by whom
they are meant to be shared.

I believe that the stories I have told,
and will continue to tell in the future,
are mine to tell and need to be
written by my hand and in my voice…
I believe that the stories I have
of my life and my memories
are some of the most powerful,
and yet still unknown;
but one day even the stories
that I may never have envisioned
would not be known by anyone me,
and a small group of individuals,
will have their moment in the spotlight
and those people whom the stories
are about may be shocked to find out
who they really are has been exposed -
because sometimes the exposure of the truth
is a necessity and not a choice.

In the future, I will tell the world a story -
in fact, I will tell many stories -
about what I have done, where I have been,
and who I known throughout my life -
experiences, places, and people
who to me are infamous and in need
of being recognised and exposed
for who and what they really are…
in the past, there are versions of me
looking forwards and towards a future
that has not yet come to pass,
and past versions of me have no idea
what they will have to go through -
nor can they yet know how
this man in black made it to the other side
of the world of darkness they have had to traverse;
but one day all will be written,
all will be spoken, all will be shared,
and past, present, and future will collide,
and create an intense explosion
in the form of a flashback.

My Poem “Severed”

I miss being the rebel I used to be…
I miss when things were new to me…
I miss being a writer of poetry…
I miss believing everything would turn out
just as I had always dreamed…
I miss being the eternal boy, the dreamer,
the rambler who used to travel far and wide…
I miss the wonder that I used to have
whenever I looked up at the sky…
I miss being the one who could
always see constant reasons
to stay hopeful and optimistic all around me…
I miss the spark, I miss the joy,
I miss the feeling, I miss the memories
that feel as if they have been eclipsed
by darkness and pain…
I miss simplicity, I miss that which
used to make me smile
and unable to stop me from jumping out of bed
every morning to see what the new day again
had in store for me…
I miss feeling whole, full,
and as if I could leap free of gravity
and touch something that for others
seemed unfathomable and out of reach…
I miss yesterday, I miss the promise of a better tomorrow…
I miss those times when I could close my eyes
and hear my own heart beating in my chest
and I could feel the warmth of the one closest to me -
but the last of those times has long since past
and that version of my feels like a distant memory…
I miss feeling unbroken…
I miss the days gone by when I felt as free as a bird…
I miss feeling open…
I miss who I was before the mirror of my mind
and the reflection of my inner self was shattered
at the instant that my connection to the world
felt as if it was inextricably severed.

My Poem “The Resistance”

If we do not, sometimes, find ourselves
encountering a barrier between
where we are and where we want to be,
then how would we know if where we want to go
is actually the place where we are meant to be?
Because when we find ourselves
encountering something stopping us
from proceeding down the road
we know leads to the next step in our life,
the question is: what will we do to keep going?
What will we do to break through the walls
that sometimes rise up before us?
What will we use to make sure that
nothing and no one will ever stand between us
in our pursuit of what we believe is meant for us to possess and to embrace?

Happiness; the truth; peace; security;
serenity; light; love; dignity; discovery -
every day, some people are driven
in such profound, powerful, beautiful, and inspiring ways,
because they believe they are supposed to be
somewhere, doing something, for someone,
and they will do anything to make
something happen that needs to happen…
some people are always ready and willing
to be called into action when they are needed…
some people are so selfless that they regularly
volunteer to put their own lives on the line
for someone who they don’t know
and most likely have never met before,
because something inside them
is always telling them that they are
more important than the realise
and one day might be the last piece in the puzzle that brings order to chaos.

Despite what some might say,
it’s never wrong to fight for what you believe in…
despite how much some people might try
and drown you out,
it’s never wrong to say when someone is wrong
and you can prove that they are…
despite what some people might believe,
it’s never the wrong time to start something new
and to do what you have always wanted to do…
despite how much some people think you have,
or they do not have, everyone can always find
something, or perhaps someone, in this world
that can give them the best possible chance
of being able to make a difference in their life,
and perhaps in the life of others,
simply by having the courage and the ability
to never stop being themselves,
to never stop striking out when the need arises,
to never stop trying, striving, and sometimes fighting
for what they and others believe and know to be true,
to never stop learning from the mistakes of the past,
and never stop overcoming
what lies before them until it is behind them -
because sometimes we all have to do our part,
to make our mark, to contribute to the world
by going against the grain,
by rebelling against the enemies of freedom,
and by swearing to uphold the values
of the best of humanity,
and by showing what it is to be the embodiment
of what it means to be a member
of the always necessary resistance.
